Firstly congrats on the 6th place. We all know that this was you 2nd time at Asian Xgames, how did this year compare to your last time? Thanks a lot. The set up this year was a lot more street than last year. I prefer street so enjoyed the course a lot more. There were also quite afew more American guys this time... As for the whole experience of China, this year I managed to stay a bit longer which was awesome. I hung out with the local Shanghai riders and some of the American guys too...Catfish is a non stop party!
I understand that you were all kept indoors most of the time due to Swine Flu. How did that effect the mood of the comp? That isn't true, it was all pretty normal... no restrictions or anything. Although when Brian Hunt arrived he showed us photo's he took of dudes inspace suits scanning peoples heads on the plane before they were allowed off!!! That didn't happen on my flight though.
You qualified 3rd in prelims, which is crazy good. Do you think some of the other guys didnt know what to expect from you and you woke them up abit with that placing? Not really, going into the comp a lot of the guys said they think I have a good chance of doing well... I went all out in prelims as we thought finals was going to be rained out. My first prelim run sucked and my second went well. I did almost the same run in finals but went down on the last trick.. Tries to step it up for my second final run but went down a few times.
Who really pushed the level this year? Do you think some guys held back as this is the first Xgames for the year and theres still another 3 or 4 to come?Garret Reynolds!!! The guys is so so so good... I think he was the onlyone holding back, and he won... easily. He could have way more crazy stuff if he wanted to or needed to.
Craziest trick of the comp?Nothing to handrail - Kym Grosser
Craziest rider of the comp? The afro guy from Malaysia! He didn't make finals but I wish he did.
Some riders keep tricks on the down low until they can do them in a comp and stun everyone. Was there any new tricks this year and did you have anything new that you unleashed? No, it wasn't really like that. I pretty much did stuff I've done beforethat is just a bit scary. Most of the stuff Garret does stuns everyone...I saw him do a smith to nose manual to bar spin up the big ass ledge almost every try!
Is there any trick/line you wanted to do and didnt get done?Yeah, in my secind final run I wanted to whip over the big rail down thestairs and bar spin to ice that rail too... but after i had a few falls I decided it wasn't worth it.
How much does the support you got from the guys/gals back here mean to you?Oh man, so so much. It's awesome logging onto facebook and seeing a bunch of messages wishing me luck. A huge thanks to everyone for the support, means the world.
Whats next for Greg Illingworth? Are you going to try get to the other X-games comps too? I know there's something else in the works too.I am gonna be home for a bit running
The Riot. There is a Red Bull comphappening in Soweto really soon. Then Mr Price are doing a dirt comp inKZN. AFter that I might go to BMX worlds in Cologne. As for X Games... if they send an invite I will do my best to get there.
Any night time antics that you can let us in on? I know you said on FB that one night there was abit crazy. Fill us in.Pretty much every night afetr the actual event was a balls to the wall party... As i said Catfish is nuts man. The 2 of us were riding around the streets at like 6am after a party and he decided to pretend to have a fit right there on the floor in front of a car full of people going to work... I was in tears with laughter... I honestly believe that is the true reason I went to China... to see that happen.
Shout outs and thanks?A huge thanks to Mongoose, Red, and Monster for helping me get there. To everyone for all the support. To the organisers, April and Jeremy who were awesome.
