Gen-X Dream Centre is OPEN!

Thank the Lord it didn't rain. I was at the park at 8am sweeping up the puddles and by 11am the bowls were emptied and the sessioned started. The park is not finished but we all had a good run and the response was good. The levels of riders and skaters in Table View/Parklands is going to skyrocket. Thanks to Ian, Buddy, Clemie, German, Werner, Tucker and the others for coming through and doing a little demo. The kids loved it. Am/Pro BMX comp soon?

Well the weather SUCKS!

Tomorrow is the opening of the Gen-X Dream Centre and Skate park. Unfortunatly the park is not finished and the bowls are knee deep in water so the bottoms are slimy with wet cement. There will still be a little session going on but dont expect to be able to ride the full park.

Cnr of Parklnds Main, opp KFC.

Should be fun!

New T-shirts!

Clement at Speelgrond has just put up the new design that I've been hinting about lately. We'll be printing these in the next week or two. Let us know if you are down for one of these and let us know what sizes. I don't think this will look right in XS and Sml but let us know.

Seems like the trails session is fully here. The Farm is rocking and Wayne said they've been working on Gums too. Good things coming. I too a sneek peek as I drove past UTC the other day and theres something happening there too.

Giant just posted an edit of Heath Pinter riding Paxtons trails. Go check it HERE. Real good riding and some rad lines through these trails. The car doesn't suck either.

Bike update and more park news.

Firstly, The Sunday! bikes DVD is great and Savage has a good section. Can't wait for these DVD's to arrive. Savage should be bringing some back with him at the end of next month.
Farm session on Sat if the weather is good. More details closer to the day.

Markus of Old School Productions is going to put his grindboxes at the Gen-X park, once the fencing is up. He'll then be collecting them whenever he is doing a comp or show and returning them afterwards. Thanks to him for the use of them.

I put some new stuff on my bike. Thanks to Empire bmx in Texas for the Plegs and Omnico for the Snafu "captain" stem. Thanks to Greg at TheRiot for the Eclat clear pedals. I've got 2 more plegs coming and can't wait.

Get amped!

This obviously isn't anywhere near the final layout but atleast you can see what the progress is. Concret started going down yesterday. Hope the rain stops so they can continue. I've been working hard here with Gen-X and giving ideas but trying not to step on any toes. We almost had a spine with a 1.5m deck, that quarter against the wall, almost became a really wide roll-in and I've sent in designs for the Grindboxes and rail setup. Stay Tuned!

Also that BMX Race meeting on Sat might not happen. 3 main people can't make it and we'll have to see where we go from here. Might get moved to a week night.
Dont forget the Sunday! Premier on Sat at The Shed park in Stellenbosch. 6pm. T'shirts will be on sale, so bring some Cash.

Greg Illingworth interview

Firstly congrats on the 6th place. We all know that this was you 2nd time at Asian Xgames, how did this year compare to your last time?
Thanks a lot. The set up this year was a lot more street than last year. I prefer street so enjoyed the course a lot more. There were also quite afew more American guys this time... As for the whole experience of China, this year I managed to stay a bit longer which was awesome. I hung out with the local Shanghai riders and some of the American guys too...Catfish is a non stop party!

I understand that you were all kept indoors most of the time due to Swine Flu. How did that effect the mood of the comp?
That isn't true, it was all pretty normal... no restrictions or anything. Although when Brian Hunt arrived he showed us photo's he took of dudes inspace suits scanning peoples heads on the plane before they were allowed off!!! That didn't happen on my flight though.

You qualified 3rd in prelims, which is crazy good. Do you think some of the other guys didnt know what to expect from you and you woke them up abit with that placing?
Not really, going into the comp a lot of the guys said they think I have a good chance of doing well... I went all out in prelims as we thought finals was going to be rained out. My first prelim run sucked and my second went well. I did almost the same run in finals but went down on the last trick.. Tries to step it up for my second final run but went down a few times.

Who really pushed the level this year? Do you think some guys held back as this is the first Xgames for the year and theres still another 3 or 4 to come?
Garret Reynolds!!! The guys is so so so good... I think he was the onlyone holding back, and he won... easily. He could have way more crazy stuff if he wanted to or needed to.

Craziest trick of the comp?
Nothing to handrail - Kym Grosser

Craziest rider of the comp?
The afro guy from Malaysia! He didn't make finals but I wish he did.

Some riders keep tricks on the down low until they can do them in a comp and stun everyone. Was there any new tricks this year and did you have anything new that you unleashed?
No, it wasn't really like that. I pretty much did stuff I've done beforethat is just a bit scary. Most of the stuff Garret does stuns everyone...I saw him do a smith to nose manual to bar spin up the big ass ledge almost every try!

Is there any trick/line you wanted to do and didnt get done?
Yeah, in my secind final run I wanted to whip over the big rail down thestairs and bar spin to ice that rail too... but after i had a few falls I decided it wasn't worth it.

How much does the support you got from the guys/gals back here mean to you?
Oh man, so so much. It's awesome logging onto facebook and seeing a bunch of messages wishing me luck. A huge thanks to everyone for the support, means the world.

Whats next for Greg Illingworth? Are you going to try get to the other X-games comps too? I know there's something else in the works too.
I am gonna be home for a bit running The Riot. There is a Red Bull comphappening in Soweto really soon. Then Mr Price are doing a dirt comp inKZN. AFter that I might go to BMX worlds in Cologne. As for X Games... if they send an invite I will do my best to get there.

Any night time antics that you can let us in on? I know you said on FB that one night there was abit crazy. Fill us in.
Pretty much every night afetr the actual event was a balls to the wall party... As i said Catfish is nuts man. The 2 of us were riding around the streets at like 6am after a party and he decided to pretend to have a fit right there on the floor in front of a car full of people going to work... I was in tears with laughter... I honestly believe that is the true reason I went to China... to see that happen.

Shout outs and thanks?
A huge thanks to Mongoose, Red, and Monster for helping me get there. To everyone for all the support. To the organisers, April and Jeremy who were awesome.
